The most ancient as well as the most thrilling Motorsport event of the country, 27th SJOBA Thunderbolt Sub-Himalayan Open Rally 2014, is scheduled to be conducted on March 21 to 23. While giving details of the rally at a press conference held at CGA Golf Range , Sector 6 , the office bearers of SJOBA comprising of Mr. M.L. Sarin , Founder President SJOBA & Chief Marshal, Mr. Ajay Thiara, President SJOBA and Steward of the club, Mr. S.P.S. Ghai, Clerk of course, Mr. Naginder Singh, Deputy Clerk of Course & Mr. Sahil Sharma, Secretary of the Meet informed that the rally, recognized by the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of India (FMSCI) will witness rallyists from various parts of the region.
The event has two major categories: ‘Challenge’ and ‘Endurance Trial’. Challenge is the extreme category of the event, which is all about maximum speed. The ‘Endurance Trial’ is based on the Time-Speed- Distance (TSD) format and is regarded as a more serious part of rallying.
The rally is scheduled to be conducted on March 21 to 23.
The ever–popular Super Special Stage (SSS) will be held on March 21 in Chandigarh where the participants will demonstrate their driving skills before a huge audience who really do understand the event. This gives a very large momentum to the sport in the region. The Leg 1 and Leg 2 of the Extreme and TSD will take place on March 22nd and 23rd.
A Super Special Stage is organized at Chandigarh, in which the Extreme Rally will be open to jeeps, cars and motorbikes with the participants being required to cover approximately 400-500kms over the next 2 days. New challenges wait for the participants as there has been a major change in the route of the rally, which the vehicles will have to undergo. There are new competitive sections included along with a river bed section. The Time-Speed-Distance route too this year has been given a fresh look with the route giving the amateur driver an opportunity to experience exciting off-roading. As always, the 4W/2W/TSD rallies will be going on simultaneously.
Giving importance to safety standards, there will be FIVs (First Intervention Vehicles) and ambulances at each competitive stage with SJOBA marshals and doctors available with full medical assistance. As the Rally enjoys the full support of the State Administrations it will be ensured that there is no oncoming traffic during the competitive stages. SJOBA also boasts of a near perfect wireless communication network set-up with in-house ham radio operators ensuring any kind of help to be provided immediately to the participants. Each participant is treated like a member of the SJOBA family and provided with excellent food and lodging during the event. SJOBA’s hospitality and professionalism can never be questioned. Over 150 marshals of SJOBA ensure that the participants do not face any sort of inconveniences. They also make sure that the participants enjoy both the living and competition and come back next year for more of it. The prize distribution for winners will be held on March 24.
