“The Best or Nothing”
Mercedes Benz- Chakan Plant
Mercedes Benz India has been established in 1994. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG.
I am going to specifically talk about it’s headquarter which is in Chakan, Pune. I had the opportunity to visit the plant twice; first as a prospective participant of the renowned Graduate Trainee Program and second, as a member of Autosports India on an assigned project.
During my first visit, I had the opportunity of interacting with a number of graduate trainees who had done their internship with Mercedes.
Let me mention here, doing an internship at Chakan is not about doing research, but pertains mainly to production and sales. The Mercedes Benz India Research Center is headquartered in Bangalore which I shall cover in a later article.
Being an auto-enthusiast is not enough, let’s familiarize with some of the must-know facts of this marvellous plant in Chakan-
Area: Over 100 acres
Assembled models: C, CLA, E, GL, GLA, ML and S class
Outlets: 69 across 38 cities
Before signing off, a word of advice specifically to interested students in pursuit of GT programs in automotive organizations- from my personal experience, Mercedes-Benz India is the only organization (apart from Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors) which has a smooth and functional structure of taking in graduate trainees.
