MARUTI SUZUKI remained the best-selling car brand in August 2024 and was the only carmaker to cross cumulative sales of over a lakh units. The automaker shipped 6,131 more cars than the Hyundai, Tata, and Mahindra combined.

Although its monthly sales grew by a little over 4 percent, Maruti’s year-on-year (YoY) sales saw a decline of almost 8.5 percent last month.

HYUNDAI stood second in August 2024 with over 49,525 units dispatched. However, the automaker still saw a decline of 8 percent in yearly sales and witnessed 1% MoM growth.

Although TATA retained its position as the third best-selling car brand last month, it’s facing the decline of -1% MoM and -3% YoY sales.

MAHINDRA’s monthly sales grew by more than 4%, while its yearly sales also saw a growth of 16.1% in August 2024. The Indian automaker dispatched 43,277 units last month.
- Toyota Kirloskar Motor registered an impressive 36.3% year-on-year growth in August 2024.
- SUVs and MPVs have been major contributors to the company’s sales, reflecting a growing preference for these vehicle segments.
- Kia India announced a 17.2% year-on-year increase in total wholesales for August 2024.
- “This success reflects our strategic product optimization, ensuring our vehicles offer exceptional value,” said Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and National Head of Sales & Marketing at Kia India.
- Honda Cars India reported improvement in total sales figures for August 2024 at 11,143 units. Honda Cars India Ltd sales are divided between domestic and export markets. Domestic sales accounted for 5,326 units and export sales at 5,817 units.
- MG Motor India reported a 9.2% year-on-year increase in retail sales for August 2024.
- More than 35% of these sales were from new energy vehicles (NEVs), including the flagship ZS electric vehicle and the Comet.
- The company also announced that it will launch a new model, the Windsor, on September 11, 2024.

VOLKSWAGEN sold 170 more cars in August 2024 compared to that in July. However, its YoY sales was still down by more than 14 percent.

Compared to July 2024, RENAULT managed to cross the sales mark of 3,000 units in August 2024. Despite registering a growth of more than 6.5 percent in monthly sales, its yearly sales declined by almost 17 percent.
